This cozy and unpretentious coffee shop stands out for its inviting atmosphere and warm hospitality from the owner, often described as a delightful and entertaining presence. Many patrons, like Emily Liu and Bounphet P Sinthavong, rave about the exceptional value and quality, particularly the lattes and delicious egg toast. With prices that haven’t changed in decades, COFFEE Coral remains a reliable choice for both locals and travelers seeking comfort and familiarity.
Despite its compact size and limited seating, the ambience captures the essence of an old-fashioned Japanese coffee house, where guests can savor their drinks while breathing in the rich aroma of brewed coffee. Reviews for COFFEE Coral
Review highlights
Based on 121 reviewsCOFFEE Coral is widely appreciated for its cozy, nostalgic atmosphere and welcoming host, creating a warm and inviting environment for visitors. The coffee, particularly the latte and siphon options, receives consistent praise for quality and value. Patrons often highlight the café as a peaceful retreat amidst the bustling Tokyo neighborhood, ideal for short breaks or relaxed visits. However, the small seating capacity and allowance of smoking throughout the space are noted as potential drawbacks, especially for non-smokers. Despite this, the combination of friendly service, delicious offerings, and a unique ambiance makes COFFEE Coral a favored spot among locals and travelers alike.
Old coffee house with a warm and welcoming host! I had a cup of hot latte and I have to say, it’s really great!! Also, at a surprising price! (Latte ¥380) It’s a great place to slow down a bit while traveling. Few seats only. Smoking is allowed.
This tiny little shop has now become my fave coffee shop in Kouenji. The owner is a lovely lady who knows how to entertain guests without being too intrusive. I think she has a large number of following not just because of her good coffee and toasted sandwiches. I will definitely come back but there's one thing I need to remind that this shop allows smoking so if you're not a fan of the smell of cigarette probably you better avoid this shop.
I open the Asahi Shimbun and take a sip of siphon coffee. I can spare exactly ten minutes before clocking in for another twelve hours at the office. This cafe is my respite, between home and work -- I just hope I don't run into Suzuki-san here. He's not a bad boss, but still. On the flickery CRT up on the counter, NHK shows Nakasone-san talking about export growth and Reagan complaining about us again. But they keep buying our Toyotas and Datsuns, don't they? Speaking of buying -- the way Tokyo real estate prices keep skyrocketing, I'll never be able to buy a house here. I'll have to break the news to Miyako-san one of these days. At least I can still afford coffee. That was my morning at Coffee Coral. Or at least how I remember it. The prices haven't changed in forty years. The egg toast is amazing. The interior is so cozy that it looks AI generated, except it's absolutely genuine. Coffee Coral is the real thing.
there's no separate space for smokers, but if you don't mind the smell, it's a great place.
One of my favorite spots for coffee in the world. I have been to Tokyo twice and I will always make it a point to stop by. Although I am limited in Japanese, I always feel welcomed. Delicious food and coffee, even sweeter owner.
Small but cozy place to have a time. I hate tabaco. But mix of smoke and coffee was not so bad.
Very cute retro vibe with kind and thoughtful service ! The food and coffee was simple but good and the lady behind the counter is chatty and helpful. We speak very little Japanese but the girls next to us helped to translate to the lady, the atmosphere was extremely welcoming. You can also smoke indoors which I didn’t realise was still legal lol. A must visit when you’re in Koenji, thank you very much !
A nice old lady running a neighborhood coffee shop for more than 40 years
